‘SUBSTANCE AND DRUG USE DISORDERS’

Mental and substance use disorders have been increasingly being recognised in the past few decades as contributing  significantly to the global burden of disease, classified as one of the top ten leading causes of burden worldwide (GBD 2019 Mental Disorders Collaborators, 2022). The global prevalence rates of mental and substance use disorders in 2019. There was an overall prevalence of mental disorders of 13% and 2.2% for substance-use disorders. Not surprisingly, in substance use disorders, there was a higher prevalence of alcohol use disorders (1.5%) than (other) drug use disorders (0.8%). Substance used is associated with numerous undesirable short and long-term effects which maybe physical or psychosocial in nature affecting an individual's ability to perform, complete meaningful work / life tasks ( Activities of Daily Living). Hence indicating a profound need for recovery. Feel free to reach out today to kickstart your rehab program.

‘STROKE’

After a stroke, depending on the type patients may struggle performing ADL's ( Activities of Daily Living ) which include completing of work-related and personal tasks. Meaning individuals are unable to maximize their functional independence and navigating changes in life after a stroke. A recovery process needs to kickoff with a therapist to retrain you completing of tasks in the same way as before you suffered a stroke. Also training compensatory skills: this involves completing tasks in a different way than before. Fact, a stroke interferes with your ability to perform ADL's and maintain a proper rehab regimen. Fortunately, there are series of stroke interventions to reach your recovery goals & maximize functional independence.

‘CEREBRAL PALSY’

Cerebral palsy is a neurodevelopmental disorder that affects movement and posture due to a non progressive  damage to the immature brain, ultimately affecting the child's life span. It changes in severity and functional level as the individual grows and develops into adulthood. Research has indicated that Cerebral palsy requires appropriate ongoing rehabilitation to maintain, restore functional levels and prevent regress in motor performance of these patients.
